What to Expect in Minds in Bloom
1. Initial Inquiry and Intake
After you reach out by expressing interest, we will send out an intake form to be filled in. It covers contact information, medical and mental health history, current issues and therapy goals. This helps us get a preliminary understanding of your needs.
2. Intake Session
An intake session is typically about 75 minutes long and it involves rapport building, discussing confidentiality, what to expect from therapy, exploring your background, and setting therapy goals. The therapist conducts an informal assessment to understand your background, presenting concerns, and factors that may affect mental health. Together, you and your therapist can outline assessments (if any), specific goals and desired outcomes for therapy.
3. Follow Up Sessions
Therapy sessions take place on a scheduled basis (weekly or biweekly). In each session, you and the therapist work on specific issues, thoughts, and behaviours, building self-awareness and coping strategies.
Progress review: The therapist periodically reviews progress with you, adjusting strategies or refocusing on areas that need additional support. This ensures that therapy remains responsive to the client’s changing needs.
Homework or Practice Exercises: The therapist may assign exercises between sessions to help you practice new skills in real-life situations.
4. Feeling unsure about any part of the process or have concerns?
Feel free to discuss with your therapist during your sessions. Openly discussing your concerns is one of the most important parts of the therapy. Therapy is meant to be a non-judgemental space where you can share honestly about your thoughts, feelings, and any doubts or concerns you have – even about the therapy itself.
REMEMBER
Therapy is not a quick fix like medicine—it’s a process that takes time. We encourage openly talking about concerns because it helps build trust, gain clarity, and develop effective coping strategies. Attending at least 3-5 sessions allows time to explore deeper issues, understand patterns, and see meaningful progress. Growth takes time, and therapy works best when given the space to unfold.
